Columns, builds and defenses from the Fashion Edition lane editors, Nelly (Women) and JT (Men).

This page collects the columns written under the names of the two HowTo Fashion lane editors: Nelly, who edits the women's lane, and JT, who edits the men's lane. The editors' guides elsewhere in the section are organized by topic. These pieces are personal, opinionated and usually focused on one garment, one problem or one memory.

Nelly's pieces are mostly practical fitting and care guides. They include bra fitting at home (the two measurements, sister sizing and a five-point check) and a fitting-room field guide to jeans. There is a shapewear fit guide explaining why it rolls, and a fabric cheat sheet on what survives the dryer. Others cover keeping white sneakers white, and the shoe rotation rule: how many pairs you actually need, and why shoes need a day to dry. Her styling pieces include three blazer outfits for work, weekend and evening, and notes on cotton suiting in serious heat.

JT writes defenses of specific pieces: the navy crewneck as the single best clothing purchase, and a "denim holy trinity" of dark, medium and light jeans. He also writes a practical guide to wearing suede shoes in the rain. Both editors contributed Father's Day essays, JT's on how his father dressed and Nelly's on what your dad wore and why it still works.
