Step by step
Enable High Efficiency formats
Navigate to Settings > Camera > Formats. Select High Efficiency to capture photos in HEIF/HEVC, which reduces file size significantly without sacrificing image quality.
Note: Ensure Apple ProRAW is toggled off unless you specifically require uncompressed files for professional post-processing.Optimize iCloud storage settings
Go to Settings > Photos. Ensure Optimize iPhone Storage is checked; this replaces full-resolution images with smaller versions on your device while keeping originals in iCloud.
Note: Maintain a stable Wi-Fi connection to allow background synchronization.Create a daily curation routine
Open Photos at the end of each day. Long-press on clearly unusable photos, blurry shots, or duplicates, then tap the Trash icon to move them to Recently Deleted.
Note: Clearing the Trash immediately recovers physical storage space on your device.Offload media to external storage
Connect a USB-C drive to your iPhone. Open the Photos app, select your images, tap the Share icon, and select Save to Files to migrate selected files directly to the external hardware.
Note: Use a high-speed SSD for rapid transfers during transit.Utilize non-destructive editing
Use the built-in Photos editor to adjust Light and Color parameters. All edits are non-destructive and can be reverted to the original image state at any time via the Revert button.
Note: Save your favorite edit combinations as custom filters by using third-party apps like Adobe Lightroom Mobile.
