Step by step
Update Google Messages and Carrier Services
Open the Google Play Store. Tap your profile icon, select Manage apps & device, and ensure Google Messages and Carrier Services are updated to the latest versions.
Note: Outdated carrier service frameworks frequently block the RCS handshake process.Clear cache for Messages and Carrier Services
Navigate to Settings > Apps > See all apps. Select Messages, tap Storage & cache, and choose Clear cache. Repeat this exact process for the Carrier Services app.
Note: Do not select Clear storage unless instructed, as this may reset app preferences.Disable and re-enable RCS chats
Open Google Messages. Tap your profile icon, select Messages settings, and tap RCS chats. Toggle the Status switch to Off, wait ten seconds, then toggle it back to On.
Note: This forces the app to re-verify your phone number with Google's Jibe servers.Reset network settings
Go to Settings > System > Reset options. Select Reset Wi-Fi, mobile & Bluetooth and confirm. Your device will disconnect from networks and require a restart.
Note: This will remove saved Wi-Fi networks and Bluetooth pairings.Verify default SMS app settings
Navigate to Settings > Apps > Default apps. Ensure SMS app is set to Messages. If a third-party app is selected, RCS functionality will be suppressed by the system.
Perform a forced restart
Hold the Power button and Volume Up button simultaneously until the device screen turns black. Allow the device to reboot completely to refresh all background communication services.
Note: Wait at least five minutes after rebooting for the RCS status to change from Setting up to Connected.
