ChatGPT-4 and ChatGPT-4o

Step by step

  1. 30 sec

Open ChatGPT in your web browser

Navigate to chat.openai.com and sign in to your OpenAI account. Ensure you're using ChatGPT-4 or ChatGPT-4o, as image uploads require these models.

Note: The image upload feature is not available in ChatGPT-3.5 or the legacy ChatGPT models.
  2. 15 sec

Click the attachment icon in the message box

Look for the paperclip icon on the left side of the text input field at the bottom of the chat window. Click this icon to open the file upload options.

Note: You can also drag and drop an image file directly into the chat window to bypass this step.
  3. 20 sec

    Select your image file

Choose the image you want to upload from your device's file browser. ChatGPT supports JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP formats up to 20MB in size.

Note: For best results, use high-resolution images with clear text or details you want ChatGPT to analyze.
  4. 10 sec

Wait for the image to upload and process

The image will appear as a thumbnail in your message box. ChatGPT automatically processes the image and prepares it for analysis.

  5. 30 sec

Add your question or request about the image

Type your message asking ChatGPT to analyze, describe, or answer questions about the uploaded image. Be specific about what you want to know.

Note: Instead of asking 'What is this?', try 'Describe the technical specifications shown in this diagram' or 'What text appears in this screenshot?'
  6. 10 sec

    Send your message

Press Enter or click the send button to submit your image and question. ChatGPT will analyze the image and provide a detailed response based on what it can see.

Note: You can upload multiple images in a single message by repeating the attachment process before sending.
