The only day with a routine.

Five steps Five products Once a week, Sunday evening 45 min

Mask the hair first

This is step one because it is twenty minutes of waiting, and waiting is easier when it happens underneath something else. Damp hair, not wet — a shaft already full of water has no room for conditioner, which is why most masks seem to do nothing. Mid-lengths and ends. The scalp will not thank you.

The second cleanse, with acid

Balm first, then salicylic instead of the usual gel — and then leave it on the face for a full sixty seconds. Salicylic is oil-soluble, which is the entire reason it is worth using, and it cannot get down into the pore in the time it takes you to reach for the tap. Once a week, not more.

Gua sha, on oil

Never on dry skin. Without slip the stone drags, and dragging on skin you have just acid-cleansed is worse than skipping the step. Flat stone, almost no pressure, always toward the ear — the mechanism is lymphatic drainage, not sculpting. Keep it cold. It is the most pleasant step here and the least essential.

Oil, pressed into damp skin

Oil has no water in it and hydrates nothing. It seals whatever water is already there, which is why the face has to still be damp from the rinse. Two drops, pressed with flat palms. Rub it and it warms up and vanishes into your hands, which do not need it.

Rinse cool, change the pillowcase

Cool water is simply less efficient at lifting out the conditioner you spent twenty minutes putting in. Then a clean silk pillowcase, because cotton is absorbent by design and takes back a real share of everything you have just applied, then creases the skin for seven hours on top of it.
