    Select a design template

Log into your Canva dashboard. Click the 'Create a design' button in the top right corner and choose a dimension preset, or enter custom width and height values in the search bar to initialize your canvas.

Note: Selecting a preset ensures your design is correctly sized for its intended platform, such as Instagram or a presentation.
  2. 1 min

    Add and format elements

Use the left-hand sidebar to navigate to 'Elements'. Search for shapes, lines, or graphics and click them to add them to your canvas. Use the top toolbar to adjust colors, transparency, and layering positions.

Note: Use the 'Position' button in the toolbar to quickly align elements to the center or edges of your frame.
  3. 1 min

    Insert and style typography

Select 'Text' from the sidebar and click 'Add a text box'. Type your content, then use the font dropdown menu at the top of the editor to change the typeface, size, and weight. Adjust letter spacing or text effects like shadows through the 'Effects' button.

Note: Press the T key while on the canvas to instantly add a text box.

    Upload custom assets

Click the 'Uploads' tab in the left-hand panel. Drag and drop your image or video files directly from your computer into the upload window. Once the upload finishes, click the file to place it onto your active design.

Note: Canva supports PNG, JPG, and MP4 file formats for uploads.
  5. 1 min

    Organize design layers

Right-click any element on the canvas to open the layer menu. Select 'Layer' and choose 'Bring Forward' or 'Send Backward' to manage the visual stacking order of your graphics and text boxes.

Note: Use the 'Layers' panel in the position menu for complex designs with many overlapping items.

    Export your project

Click the 'Share' button in the top right corner. Select 'Download' and choose your preferred file type, such as PNG for images or PDF Print for documents. Adjust the quality settings if necessary and click 'Download' to save the file to your device.

Note: Select 'Transparent background' if you are downloading a logo or element for use in other projects.
