    Access YouTube Studio Analytics

Open YouTube Studio at studio.youtube.com and sign in to your channel account. Click Analytics in the left sidebar menu. The Overview tab displays your channel's key metrics for the last 28 days by default.

Note: Bookmark studio.youtube.com/analytics for direct access to your analytics dashboard.
  2. 3 min

    Navigate the Overview dashboard

Review the four main metric cards: Views, Watch time, Subscribers, and Estimated revenue (if monetized). Click the date selector in the top right to change the time period from 28 days to 7 days, 90 days, or custom ranges. Use the Compare periods toggle to analyze performance against previous timeframes.

Note: Compare your current 28 days to the previous 28 days to spot growth trends or performance drops.
  3. 3 min

    Analyze the Reach tab

Click the Reach tab to view impressions, click-through rate, and traffic sources. Examine which thumbnails and titles generate the highest click-through rates. Review the traffic source breakdown to understand how viewers discover your content through YouTube search, suggested videos, or external sources.

Note: A click-through rate above 10% indicates strong thumbnail and title performance for most channels.
  4. 3 min

    Examine Engagement metrics

Select the Engagement tab to see watch time, average view duration, and top videos. Study the audience retention graph to identify where viewers drop off in your videos. Click on individual videos to see detailed retention curves and engagement patterns.

Note: Videos with 50%+ average view duration typically perform better in YouTube's algorithm.
  5. 2 min

    Study Audience demographics

Open the Audience tab to view subscriber demographics, including age, gender, geography, and subscription status. Check when your audience is on YouTube to optimize upload timing. Review the subscription source data to see which videos convert viewers into subscribers most effectively.

Note: Upload videos 2-3 hours before your audience's peak activity times for maximum initial engagement.
  6. 2 min

    Monitor Revenue analytics

If your channel is monetized, click the Revenue tab to track estimated earnings, RPM (revenue per mille), and CPM (cost per mille). Compare revenue across different video types and lengths. Analyze which content generates the highest revenue per view.

Note: Videos over 8 minutes can include mid-roll ads, potentially increasing RPM compared to shorter content.

    Create custom reports

Use the Advanced mode toggle in any tab to access detailed filtering options. Filter by video type, publish date, or content category. Export data as CSV files for external analysis by clicking the download icon in the top right corner.

Note: Export monthly performance data to track long-term trends and create comprehensive performance reports.
