Step by step
Open TikTok and start recording
Launch the TikTok app and tap the plus (+) button at the bottom center of your screen. This opens the camera interface where you'll create your video.
Access the Effects menu
Tap "Effects" in the bottom left corner of the camera screen. This opens TikTok's effects library with various categories displayed at the bottom.
Select the green screen effect
Scroll through the effects categories and tap "Trending" or use the search function. Look for the green screen effect icon, which appears as a person silhouette against a colored background. Tap to select it.
Note: The green screen effect may appear under different names like 'Green Screen' or 'Background' depending on your app version.Choose your background image or video
Tap "Select Photo" or "Select Video" from the options that appear. Browse your phone's gallery and select the image or video you want as your background. The selected media will immediately appear behind you.
Note: Videos work best when they're under 15 seconds and don't have rapid movement that might distract from your content.Adjust your position and lighting
Position yourself in the frame and ensure good lighting on your face and body. The effect works by detecting the difference between you and your actual background, so avoid wearing colors that match your background.
Note: Stand against a plain wall and ensure even lighting for the cleanest green screen effect.Record your video
Tap and hold the red record button to start filming. Keep your movements deliberate and avoid moving too quickly, as this can cause the background to flicker or show through your body.
Review and post your content
After recording, preview your video to check the background effect looks clean. Make any final edits using TikTok's editing tools, add captions or hashtags, then tap "Post" to share your green screen video.
Note: Add relevant hashtags like #greenscreen or #backgroundchange to help your video reach the right audience.
