How to Use Instagram Collab Posts

Difficulty
Beginner

Step by step

  1. Create your post as normal

Open Instagram and tap the + icon to create a new post. Select your photo or video, apply filters and edits as desired. Write your caption and add hashtags normally.

Note: Plan your caption with your collaborator beforehand since both accounts will share the same post content.
  2. Tap Tag People

On the sharing screen, tap 'Tag People' below your caption. This opens the tagging interface where you can add collaborators.

  3. Select Invite Collaborator

At the bottom of the Tag People screen, tap 'Invite Collaborator'. Search for the account you want to collaborate with by typing their username or display name.

Note: You can only add one collaborator per post, and they must be a public account or someone who follows you.
  4. Choose your collaborator

Select the account from the search results. Instagram will show their profile picture and username. Tap their name to add them as a collaborator.

  5. Share the post

Tap 'Share' to publish your post. Instagram sends a collaboration request to the other account. The post appears on your profile immediately but shows only your username until they accept.

Note: The collaborator has 24 hours to accept the request, or it expires automatically.
  6. Wait for collaborator acceptance

The invited account receives a notification and must accept the collaboration request. Once accepted, the post displays both usernames and appears on both profiles.

Note: You can view pending collaboration requests in your Activity tab under 'You' notifications.
  7. Monitor shared analytics

Both collaborators can view the post's insights and analytics. Engagement metrics combine likes, comments, and shares from both audiences into unified statistics.

Note: Collab posts typically receive higher engagement since they reach two distinct audiences simultaneously.
