Step by step
Check your internet connection
Open your web browser and navigate to any website to verify connectivity. If pages load slowly or fail, switch from Wi-Fi to cellular data or vice versa. Test Instagram again after confirming a stable connection.
Note: Use fast.com or speedtest.net to check if your connection speed meets Instagram's requirements (minimum 1 Mbps for basic functionality).Force close and restart the Instagram app
On iPhone, swipe up from the bottom and swipe up on Instagram's preview to close it. On Android, tap the recent apps button and swipe Instagram away. Reopen the app from your home screen or app drawer.
Note: This clears temporary app data and memory allocation issues that cause loading problems.Clear Instagram's cache and data
On Android, go to Settings > Apps > Instagram > Storage > Clear Cache, then Clear Data. On iPhone, delete and reinstall the app since iOS doesn't allow manual cache clearing. This removes corrupted temporary files.
Note: Clearing data logs you out, so have your login credentials ready before proceeding.Update the Instagram app
Open your device's app store and search for Instagram. Tap Update if available. Outdated versions often have compatibility issues with Instagram's servers that prevent proper loading.
Note: Enable automatic app updates to avoid future compatibility problems.Restart your device
Power off your phone completely and wait 30 seconds before turning it back on. This clears system-level network caches and resolves background processes that might interfere with Instagram's connectivity.
Check Instagram's server status
Visit downdetector.com and search for Instagram to see if other users report similar issues. If widespread outages appear, the problem is on Instagram's end and requires waiting for their fix.
Note: Instagram's official Twitter account often acknowledges major outages and provides estimated resolution times.Reset network settings
On iPhone, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset > Reset Network Settings. On Android, go to Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This clears all network configurations and often resolves persistent connectivity issues.
Note: You'll need to re-enter Wi-Fi passwords after this reset, so have them available beforehand.
