Step by step

  1. 1 min

    Access System Recovery settings

Open the Settings app by pressing the Windows Key + I. Navigate to System > Recovery to access the primary configuration panel for system restoration tools.

Note: Ensure your user account has administrative privileges to modify these settings.
  2. 1 min

    Create a Recovery Drive

Under the Recovery options section, select Create a recovery drive. Follow the on-screen wizard to back up system files to a dedicated USB flash drive, ensuring you have a bootable environment if the OS fails to load.

Note: Use a USB drive with at least 16GB of capacity; all existing data on the drive will be erased.
  3. 1 min

    Enable System Protection

Search for Create a restore point in the Windows taskbar and open the System Properties window. Select your primary System (C:) drive under Protection Settings and click Configure to enable Turn on system protection.

Note: Adjust the Max Usage slider to allocate between 5% and 10% of your disk space for recovery points.
  4. 1 min

    Schedule Advanced Startup

In the Recovery settings menu, locate Advanced startup and select Restart now. This forces the system to reboot into the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) where you can troubleshoot boot issues or perform a system image recovery.

Note: Save all open work before clicking Restart now, as the system will immediately close all applications.
  5. 1 min

    Verify Reset This PC parameters

Within the Recovery menu, select Reset PC to view your preferences. Choose Keep my files to maintain user data while reinstalling the OS, or Remove everything for a clean factory state.

Note: Always perform a full backup of critical files to external storage or cloud services before initiating a Reset.
