How to Monitor Battery Health on Wearables

Difficulty
Beginner
Tested on
watchOS 11.0 - Apple Watch Series 10; Garmin Fenix 8
You will need
Smartphone with companion app installed, stable Wi-Fi connection

Step by step

  1. 30 sec

Navigate to Battery settings on Apple Watch

Open the Settings app directly on your Apple Watch. Scroll down and tap on the Battery menu to access detailed power management statistics.

  2. 1 min

    Inspect Battery Health percentage

Select Battery Health from the list. The screen displays the maximum capacity of your battery relative to when it was new, expressed as a percentage.

Note: A capacity below 80% indicates the battery is significantly degraded and warrants service.
  3. 1 min

Review charge cycles for Garmin devices

Garmin devices do not show a percentage in the menu. Use the Garmin Connect app on your smartphone, navigate to Devices, select your watch, and choose Device Settings to view total runtime logs.

Note: Frequent unexpected shutdowns during high-GPS usage are the primary indicator of failing cells.
  4. 30 sec

    Identify physical deformation

Inspect the watch casing for slight bulging or separation between the screen and the chassis. Battery swelling creates internal pressure that forces the display assembly outward.

Note: If the screen is lifting, stop using the device immediately to prevent fire hazards.
  5. 2 min

    Perform a battery calibration cycle

Drain the wearable until it powers off completely, then charge it to 100% without interruption. This forces the power management chip to re-index the voltage range of the battery cells.

Note: Perform this process only if you notice inconsistent charge reporting.
