Step by step
Verify Wi-Fi network alignment
Ensure your phone and the smart device are connected to the same 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band. Many smart home devices do not support 5GHz networks for initial pairing. Check your router settings to confirm both devices share the same local network.
Note: If you have a dual-band router, consider temporarily disabling 5GHz during discovery.Perform a power cycle
Unplug the smart device from the power source for 30 seconds. Plug it back in and wait for the status LED to indicate it is ready for pairing. Restarting the hardware forces the internal network controller to refresh its handshake protocols.
Check the Alexa Skill status
Open the Alexa app, tap More, and select Skills & Games. Ensure the specific manufacturer skill for your device is enabled and linked. If already linked, tap Disable Skill and then re-enable it to force a re-authentication with the manufacturer server.
Manually trigger device discovery
Navigate to the Devices tab in the Alexa app. Tap the plus icon in the top right corner and select Add Device. Choose the device type, follow the on-screen instructions, and ensure the app is in discovery mode before putting your device into pairing mode.
Note: Use the voice command 'Alexa, discover my devices' to trigger an automatic scan.Update the Alexa app
Go to the App Store or Google Play Store and verify the Alexa app is running the latest version. Outdated app caches often interfere with the discovery service discovery process. Force quit the app and relaunch it after any updates are applied.
Note: Clear the app cache in your phone's system settings if using Android.
