Test the tools in the Camera app

Close Settings and open the Camera app. Point your iPhone at a subject to observe the thin grey grid lines. Tilt your device to see the Level indicator appear as a crosshair when you are near a flat, horizontal plane.

Note: When your phone is perfectly level, the crosshair will merge into a single solid line.
