  1. 30 sec

    Activate the Dictation feature

Open any app that uses the keyboard, such as Notes or Messages. Tap the microphone icon located in the bottom-right corner of the keyboard to begin listening.

Note: Ensure Dictation is enabled in Settings > General > Keyboard > Enable Dictation.
  2. 1 min

    Speak standard punctuation marks

Dictate your sentence normally and include the name of the punctuation mark where you want it placed. For example, say "period," "comma," "question mark," or "exclamation point" to insert them into your text.

Note: The iPhone will automatically convert the spoken word into the appropriate symbol.
  3. 30 sec

    Control text layout with breaks

Use the command "new line" to move the cursor to the next line without finishing the paragraph. Use the command "new paragraph" to insert a blank line and start a new block of text.

Note: These commands are essential for maintaining document structure while dictating long-form content.
  4. 30 sec

    Dictate special characters and symbols

You can insert technical or currency symbols by speaking their names. Try commands like "at sign," "ampersand," "dollar sign," or "plus sign" to place these characters precisely where needed.

  5. 15 sec

    Stop the dictation session

Tap the keyboard icon or the microphone icon again to stop recording. Review the generated text to ensure all punctuation marks were recognized correctly.

Note: If a punctuation mark is incorrect, tap the word in the text field to manually adjust it using the keyboard.
