Step by step

  1. 1 min

    Check storage usage

Navigate to Settings, select General, and tap iPhone Storage. Scroll to the bottom and view the System Data bar to confirm it is consuming excessive space.

Note: System Data fluctuates based on device activity; wait 60 seconds for the calculation to finalize.
  2. 2 min

    Clear Safari cache

Go to Settings, scroll down to Safari, and tap Clear History and Website Data. Select All History and confirm by tapping Clear History.

Note: This will sign you out of websites and remove open tabs.
  3. 1 min

    Adjust Message retention settings

Open Settings, tap Messages, and scroll to Keep Messages. Change the setting from Forever to 30 Days to automatically prune old attachments and metadata.

Note: Confirm the deletion prompt to remove messages older than the selected timeframe.
  4. 1 min

    Offload unused applications

Navigate to Settings, General, and iPhone Storage. Enable Offload Unused Apps to automatically remove application binaries while preserving your local user documents and data.

Note: Offloading reduces the app's footprint significantly without deleting your internal app settings.
  5. 2 min

    Force a local sync

Connect your iPhone to a computer via USB cable. Open Finder (macOS) or iTunes (Windows) and perform a full device backup to initiate a log flush.

Note: The synchronization process often triggers the operating system to prune stale cache files.
