- You will need
- Stable Wi-Fi connection, at least 50% battery or connected to power
Step by step
Connect to a reliable Wi-Fi network
Open the Settings app and tap Wi-Fi. Toggle the switch to On and select a stable network, as iOS updates are typically too large to download over cellular data.
Note: Avoid using public or captive portal Wi-Fi networks for system updates.Access the General settings menu
In the Settings app, scroll down and tap General. This section contains the primary administrative controls for your device.
Check for available updates
Tap Software Update. Your iPhone will automatically poll Apple’s servers to check for the latest compatible iOS version.
Initiate the download process
If an update is available, tap Download and Install. Enter your device passcode if prompted to authorize the action.
Note: The download will proceed in the background, allowing you to use your phone while it processes.Execute the installation
Once the download completes, tap Install Now. The iPhone will restart and display the Apple logo and a progress bar; do not interrupt this process.
Note: Ensure your device is connected to a power source to prevent an unexpected shutdown during installation.
