Step by step

  1. 2 min

    Confirm Your New iPhone Backup

Before erasing your old iPhone, ensure your data has been successfully transferred to your new device. Verify that all essential apps, photos, and settings are present on the new iPhone. If using iCloud, check Settings > [Your Name] > iCloud to confirm your latest backup is complete.

Note: A recent backup protects against accidental data loss if the transfer was incomplete.
  2. 1 min

    Sign Out of iCloud

Navigate to Settings > [Your Name]. Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out. You will be prompted to enter your Apple ID password to disable Activation Lock and remove the device from your trusted devices.

Note: This step is critical to prevent your device from being linked to your Apple ID after erasure.
  3. 1 min

    Initiate Content and Settings Erasure

Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone. Tap Erase All Content and Settings. This action will remove all your personal data, apps, and settings from the device.

Note: This process cannot be undone. Confirm you have completed the previous steps.
  4. 30 sec

    Confirm Erase Operation

You will see a confirmation screen explaining what will be erased. Tap Continue. If prompted, enter your iPhone passcode.

Note: The device will restart multiple times during the erasure process.
  5. 30 sec

    Enter Passcode and Apple ID

You may be asked to enter your iPhone passcode again. If Find My was enabled, you will be required to enter your Apple ID password to disable Activation Lock before the erase process begins.

Note: Disabling Activation Lock is essential for resale or trade-in.
  6. 5-15 min

    Allow Erasure to Complete

The iPhone will now erase all data and settings. This process can take several minutes. Do not interrupt the process. The device will restart and display the 'Hello' screen, indicating a successful erasure.

Note: The time required depends on the amount of data stored on the iPhone.
