Step by step

  1. 1 min

    Analyze storage consumption

Open Settings, tap General, and select iPhone Storage. Wait for the color-coded bar to load to identify which categories, such as Media, Apps, or System Data, occupy the most space.

Note: Look for the Recommendations section directly above the storage bar for quick-win suggestions from iOS.
  2. 1 min

    Enable iCloud Photos optimization

Navigate to Settings, tap Photos, and ensure iCloud Photos is toggled on. Select Optimize iPhone Storage to replace full-resolution images with device-sized versions while syncing originals to iCloud.

Note: This process happens automatically in the background when the phone is charging and connected to Wi-Fi.
  3. 2 min

    Offload unused applications

In the iPhone Storage menu, scroll to the app list and tap an app you rarely use. Tap Offload App to remove the application binary while keeping your documents and data intact.

Note: If you ever need the app again, tapping the icon on your Home Screen will redownload the necessary files.
  4. 1 min

    Clear browser cache

Go to Settings, tap Safari, and scroll down to select Clear History and Website Data. Choose All History and confirm by tapping Clear History.

Note: This will sign you out of websites and remove temporary browsing data.
  5. 1 min

    Review large attachments

Open Messages, tap Filters, then tap Recently Deleted. Alternatively, go to Settings, General, iPhone Storage, and select Messages to review and delete large video attachments or voice notes that consume significant space.

Note: Sorting by size within the Messages storage settings makes it easier to find large files.
  6. 1 min

    Force a system recalibration

Shut down your iPhone by holding the side button and volume up button, then sliding to power off. Restarting the device triggers the system to re-index files and clear temporary caches that the OS manages automatically.

Note: Check your storage status in Settings after the reboot to see the updated available capacity.
