How to Fix an Apple ID Sign-in Loop on iPhone
- Difficulty
- Intermediate
- Tested on
- iOS 18.4 - iPhone 15 Pro
- You will need
- Stable Wi-Fi connection, Apple ID password, secondary trusted device
Step by step
Force restart the iPhone
Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, press and quickly release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears. This forces the iOS kernel to drop hung background processes, which often clears temporary authentication glitches.
Note: Do not release the side button until the screen goes black and the Apple logo reappears.Check Apple System Status
Navigate to the official Apple System Status page in Safari. Ensure that Apple ID, iCloud Account, and Sign In services are marked with a green icon. If these services are currently undergoing maintenance, wait until the status returns to operational before attempting further sign-ins.
Note: Service outages occur globally and cannot be fixed by local device changes.Reset network settings
Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Reset. Select Reset Network Settings. This removes saved Wi-Fi passwords and cellular configurations, forcing the device to re-establish a clean handshake with authentication servers.
Note: This will not delete your data, but it will erase saved Wi-Fi networks.Force a Date and Time refresh
Go to Settings > General > Date & Time. Toggle Set Automatically off, wait ten seconds, then toggle it back on. An incorrect time synchronization prevents the encrypted handshaking required for Apple ID authentication.
Note: If the toggle is greyed out, disable Screen Time restrictions first.Sign out and sign back in
Navigate to Settings > [Your Name]. Scroll to the bottom and tap Sign Out. Enter your Apple ID password if prompted to disable Find My. Once signed out, restart the device, return to Settings, and tap Sign in to your iPhone to re-enter your credentials.
Note: You will be asked to choose which iCloud data to keep on the device during sign-out.Update iOS to the latest version
Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If an update is available, tap Update Now. Persistent loops are often linked to bugs in older iOS versions that are resolved in subsequent patches.
Note: Ensure your device has at least 50% battery or is connected to power.
