Step by step
Force restart your iPhone
A force restart clears the temporary system cache that manages background processes. Press and quickly release the Volume Up button, press and quickly release the Volume Down button, then press and hold the side button until the Apple logo appears on the display.
Note: This does not delete your data; it refreshes the iOS environment.Check your network connection
Open Safari and attempt to load a webpage to verify active internet connectivity. If using cellular data, navigate to Settings > App Store > App Downloads and ensure 'Always Allow' is selected for downloads exceeding 200MB.
Verify Apple ID payment methods
An expired payment method halts all downloads, including free apps. Open Settings, tap your name at the top, then tap Payment & Shipping to ensure your information is up to date and valid.
Note: If an error exists, a red notification badge will appear next to your payment method.Pause and resume the download
Locate the stuck app icon on your Home Screen. Long-press the icon and select Pause Download from the context menu, wait five seconds, then select Resume Download to force the App Store to re-establish the connection.
Sign out and back into the App Store
Navigate to Settings > [Your Name] > Media & Purchases. Tap Sign Out, restart your device, then return to this menu to sign back in. This process resets your account's handshake with Apple's servers.
Note: You will need your Apple ID password to sign back in.Check for iOS updates
Outdated software can conflict with new App Store API requirements. Go to Settings > General > Software Update and install any pending iOS updates to ensure system stability.
Note: Ensure you have at least 50% battery or are connected to a charger.
