iPhone running iOS 14 or later, Third-party browser or email app installed from the App Store

Step by step

  1. 1 min

    Confirm third-party app compatibility

Not all applications support default status. Ensure your preferred web browser or email client is installed and updated to its latest version via the App Store before attempting to set it as a default.

Note: If an app does not appear in your Settings list, it does not support being set as a default.
  2. 30 sec

    Open the Settings application

Locate and tap the Settings app from your Home Screen or App Library. Scroll down until you see the list of installed third-party applications.

  3. 30 sec

    Locate the target application

Find the specific browser or email app you wish to use as your default. Tap the name of the app to open its individual configuration menu.

  4. 30 sec

    Set the default application

Tap either Default Browser App or Default Email App, depending on the application type. Select your preferred app from the list to assign it as the system-wide default.

Note: A checkmark indicates that the application is currently selected.
  5. 30 sec

    Test the new configuration

Open an email containing a link or a contact card with an email address. Tap the link or address to ensure the system redirects you to your newly selected default application.
