Step by step
Open your first app
Launch the app you want to use as your primary application. This app will occupy one half of your screen when Split View is activated.
Access the Dock
Swipe up from the bottom edge of the screen to reveal the Dock. The Dock contains your recently used apps and pinned applications.
Note: If the Dock doesn't appear, swipe up more slowly and pause briefly at the bottom of the screen.Drag the second app to split the screen
Touch and hold the app icon you want to use as your second app from the Dock. Drag it to either the left or right edge of the screen until you see the screen divide with a vertical line.
Note: Release the app icon when you see the black divider line appear — this indicates Split View is ready to activate.Adjust the split ratio
Drag the vertical divider bar left or right to change how much screen space each app occupies. You can set the split to 50/50, 70/30, or 30/70 ratios.
Note: Double-tap the divider bar to quickly return to a 50/50 split.Switch apps within Split View
To replace either app, swipe up from the bottom to show the Dock, then drag a new app onto the app you want to replace. The new app will take its place in the split.
Note: You can also drag apps from Spotlight search or the Home Screen into Split View.Close Split View
Drag the divider bar all the way to either edge of the screen to close Split View and return to single-app mode. The app you drag toward will become the full-screen application.
Note: Alternatively, press and hold the divider bar, then tap the X button that appears to close one of the apps.
