Step by step
Connect the iPad to power
Plug your iPad into a wall outlet using a certified power adapter. Updates require a reliable power source to prevent the device from shutting down during the installation process.
Note: Avoid using a computer USB port for power, as it may not supply sufficient wattage for the update.Verify Wi-Fi network stability
Ensure the iPad is connected to a stable, high-speed Wi-Fi network. Open Settings and verify the connection in the Wi-Fi menu to prevent interrupted downloads.
Check for available updates
Navigate to Settings, tap General, and select Software Update. The system will automatically poll Apple servers to verify if a newer version of iPadOS is available for your device.
Initiate the download
If an update is available, tap Download and Install. Enter your iPad passcode when prompted to authorize the system to begin fetching the installation files.
Note: Ensure you have at least 5GB of available storage space for the installation package.Install the software update
Once the download completes, tap Install Now. The iPad will restart and display the Apple logo and a progress bar; do not force a restart or disconnect the power during this phase.
Note: The device will be temporarily unavailable for use during the installation reboot.Confirm the current version
After the iPad restarts, return to Settings, General, and About. Verify that the Software Version matches the version you just installed to ensure full compatibility for your data transfer.
Note: Ensure the destination device is also updated to the same or higher version of iPadOS.
