How to Fix iPad AirPrint Connectivity Issues

You will need
Wi-Fi network access, AirPrint-compatible printer

Step by step

  1. 1 min

    Confirm network parity

Ensure the iPad and the printer are connected to the exact same Wi-Fi network. AirPrint relies on mDNS broadcast packets, which fail if the devices reside on different subnets or frequency bands.

Note: If using a dual-band router, ensure both devices are on the 2.4GHz or 5GHz network simultaneously.
  2. 2 min

    Power cycle hardware

Power off the printer, unplug it from the wall, and wait 30 seconds. Simultaneously, toggle Wi-Fi off on the iPad via Settings > Wi-Fi, wait, and toggle it back on.

Note: Reconnecting the printer forces a fresh discovery handshake with the network gateway.
  3. 2 min

    Update iPadOS software

Navigate to Settings > General > Software Update. Ensure the iPad is running the latest version of iPadOS to maintain compatibility with modern network security protocols.

  4. 1 min

    Reset network settings

If the printer remains undiscoverable, go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPad > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This removes saved Wi-Fi passwords and clears cached network configurations.

Note: You will need to re-enter your Wi-Fi credentials after the iPad reboots.
  5. 30 sec

    Test the print queue

Open the document or image you intend to print. Tap the Share icon, select Print, and tap Select Printer to verify that the printer appears in the list.

Note: Wait for the printer model to appear in the AirPrint picker; do not tap Print until the status shows as Ready.
