Step by step
Verify AirDrop visibility settings
Open the Control Center by swiping down from the top-right corner of the screen. Long-press the network card, tap the AirDrop icon, and ensure it is set to Contacts Only or Everyone for 10 Minutes. Selecting Receiving Off prevents the device from appearing to others.
Note: If you are not in the sender's contacts, select Everyone for 10 Minutes to ensure visibility.Cycle Wi-Fi and Bluetooth
AirDrop relies on both radios to establish a connection. Navigate to Settings, tap Wi-Fi, and toggle the switch off, wait five seconds, then toggle it back on. Repeat this process for Bluetooth in the Settings menu to reset the handshake protocols.
Note: Ensure your device is not currently utilizing a Personal Hotspot, as this disables AirDrop.Disable Personal Hotspot
AirDrop functionality is automatically suspended when a Personal Hotspot is active. Go to Settings, tap Personal Hotspot, and ensure the Allow Others to Join toggle is set to the off position. Attempt the AirDrop transfer again once the hotspot is disabled.
Note: Turning off the hotspot is mandatory for AirDrop to initialize.Perform a soft restart
Clear temporary system glitches by restarting your iPad. Press and hold either volume button and the top button until the power-off slider appears, drag it, and wait 30 seconds before holding the top button to power the device back on.
Note: This forces a reset of the background processes handling wireless discovery.Check for iPadOS updates
Outdated software can lead to handshake failures between devices. Go to Settings, tap General, and select Software Update. Install any available updates to ensure your communication protocols are current and compatible with other Apple devices.
Note: Always maintain the latest iPadOS version to prevent compatibility discrepancies.
