Step by step
Trigger a manual Google Drive backup
Open the Settings app and navigate to System > Backup. Ensure the 'Backup by Google One' toggle is set to On, then tap 'Back up now' to capture your current apps, SMS, call history, and device settings to the cloud.
Note: Verify the 'Last backup' timestamp updates successfully before proceeding.Secure local photos and videos
Open the Google Photos app, tap your profile icon, and ensure 'Backup' is enabled. If any folders remain unsynced, tap Photos settings > Backup > Back up device folders and toggle the required switches to ON.
Note: Ensure your Google Account has sufficient storage remaining to house all high-resolution media.Export two-factor authentication tokens
Open your primary authenticator app (such as Google Authenticator). Select the menu icon, choose 'Transfer accounts,' and tap 'Export accounts' to generate a QR code or cloud backup sync for your 2FA seeds.
Note: Physical possession of these codes is critical; failing to export them will result in permanent loss of access to secondary accounts.Verify application-specific data
Check banking, messaging, and productivity apps for internal backup features. Specifically, confirm your WhatsApp, Signal, or Telegram message history is manually synced to your linked Google Drive account via the app's settings menu.
Note: Generic Android backups do not always include non-Google application databases.Transfer local files to external storage
Connect your device to a computer via USB. Set the connection mode to 'File Transfer' in the notification shade, then manually copy sensitive documents from the internal storage to a secure location on your local drive.
Note: Do not rely on cloud sync for proprietary documents containing sensitive personal information.Confirm account credentials
Verify you know the username and password for the primary Google account associated with the device. Without these credentials, Factory Reset Protection (FRP) will prevent you from accessing the device after a reset.
Note: Disable 'Find My Device' briefly if you are trading in the hardware to avoid activation locks.
