Step by step

  1. 1 min

    Reinstall WhatsApp

Uninstall WhatsApp from your Android device. Open the Google Play Store, search for WhatsApp, and select Install to ensure you are using the most current version of the application.

Note: Ensure your device is signed into the same Google account used to create the backup.
  2. 1 min

    Verify your phone number

Open WhatsApp and accept the Terms of Service. Enter the exact phone number associated with your previous account and tap Next to receive your six-digit verification code.

  3. 30 sec

    Grant backup permissions

Once verified, WhatsApp will request permission to access your contacts and Google Drive backups. Tap Continue to authorize these permissions and allow the app to scan for existing cloud backups.

  4. 2 min

    Initiate data restoration

When the app detects your backup, tap the Restore button on the screen. Do not close the application or interrupt the connection while the progress bar completes the data transfer.

Note: Restoration time depends on the size of your media files and network speed.
  5. 30 sec

    Complete the setup

Tap Next once the restoration finishes to see your chat history. WhatsApp will continue to download media files in the background after the initial messages are restored.
