How to Manage Android Notification Channels

Step by step

   Open the App Info menu

   Locate the app icon on your home screen or in the app drawer. Long-press the icon and select the 'App info' (i) icon from the context menu.

   Note: Alternatively, navigate to Settings > Apps > See all apps and select the desired application.

   Locate the Notifications settings

   Once inside the App info screen, tap on 'Notifications'. This panel displays the global notification status for the app and lists available categories.

   Identify individual notification categories

   Scroll down to the 'Notification categories' section. You will see a list of specific channels defined by the developer, such as 'Direct Messages', 'Promotions', or 'Downloads'.

   Note: If you do not see this section, the app may not support granular notification channels.

   Customize channel behavior

   Tap the text label—not the toggle—of a specific category to enter its detailed settings. From here, you can set the notification to 'Alerting' or 'Silent', change the sound, or toggle 'Pop on screen' for high-priority alerts.

   Note: Silent notifications will appear in your shade without making a sound or vibrating.
5. 30 sec

   Exit and verify settings

   Press the back button repeatedly to return to the home screen. Your changes are applied instantly, and the system will honor these preferences for all future notifications from this channel.

   Note: Test your changes by triggering a notification through the app to ensure it behaves as expected.
