Step by step
Enable Randomized MAC Addresses
Open Settings and tap Network & internet, then select Internet. Tap the gear icon next to your current Wi-Fi network and select Privacy. Choose Use randomized MAC to ensure your device uses a unique identifier for every network session, preventing persistent tracking.
Note: This setting is applied per network; ensure it is active for every saved network.Configure Private DNS
Navigate to Settings > Network & internet > Private DNS. Select Private DNS provider hostname and enter a secure DNS address such as dns.google or 1dot1dot1dot1.cloudflare-dns.com. This encrypts your DNS queries, preventing service providers from monitoring the websites you visit.
Note: Using an encrypted DNS provider significantly improves privacy on open networks.Disable Automatic Network Connection
Go to Settings > Network & internet > Wi-Fi. Tap Wi-Fi preferences and toggle off Connect to open networks. This prevents your device from blindly joining potentially malicious hotspots as you move.
Note: Manually selecting trusted networks is the most effective defense against rogue access points.Remove Unused Known Networks
Within the Wi-Fi menu, tap Saved networks. Review the list for any old, public, or insecure networks you no longer use. Tap the network name and select Forget to prevent your device from automatically re-establishing a handshake with these endpoints.
Note: Regularly purging this list minimizes the attack surface.Utilize a VPN for Public Wi-Fi
Download a reputable VPN application from the Play Store. Ensure the Kill Switch feature is enabled within the VPN settings to block internet access if the tunnel drops. Always activate the VPN before connecting to any Wi-Fi network that you do not personally own.
Note: Always verify the VPN service's no-logs policy before installation.
