Step by step
Force stop and restart the crashing app
Open Settings → Apps → [App Name] → Force Stop. Wait 10 seconds, then launch the app normally from your home screen. This clears the app from memory and resolves temporary glitches causing the crash.
Note: You can also force stop apps from the recent apps screen by swiping up and holding, then tapping the app icon and selecting 'App info'.Clear the app's cache and data
Navigate to Settings → Apps → [App Name] → Storage → Clear Cache. If crashes continue, tap Clear Data to reset the app completely. Note that clearing data removes all app settings and login information.
Note: Clear cache first as it preserves your settings. Only clear data if cache clearing doesn't resolve the issue.Update the problematic app
Open Google Play Store and search for the crashing app. Tap Update if available, or tap the app name and select Update. Outdated apps often crash due to compatibility issues with newer Android versions.
Note: Enable automatic app updates in Play Store settings to prevent future compatibility issues.Restart your Android device
Hold the power button and select Restart, or hold power + volume down for 10 seconds to force restart. This clears system memory, closes background processes, and resolves conflicts that may cause app instability.
Note: If your device becomes unresponsive, remove the battery for 30 seconds (if removable) or hold power + volume down for 15 seconds.Check available storage space
Go to Settings → Storage and ensure you have at least 1GB of free space. Delete unnecessary files, photos, or apps if storage is below 10% capacity. Insufficient storage causes apps to crash when they cannot save temporary data.
Note: Use Settings → Storage → Free up space for automated cleanup suggestions, or move photos and videos to cloud storage.Update Android system software
Open Settings → System Update (or Software Update) → Check for Updates. Download and install any available system updates. System updates often include app compatibility fixes and stability improvements.
Note: Connect to Wi-Fi and ensure your battery is above 50% before starting system updates to prevent installation failures.Uninstall and reinstall the app
Long-press the app icon and select Uninstall, or go to Settings → Apps → [App Name] → Uninstall. Download the app again from Google Play Store. This removes corrupted installation files that cause persistent crashes.
Note: Back up any important app data before uninstalling, as this process removes all local app information permanently.
