Difficulty
Beginner
Tested on
iOS 18.4 - iPhone 15 Pro, macOS 15.2 - Sonoma
You will need
Access to your primary Apple ID, Google Play account, and financial transaction history.

Step by step

  1. 1 min

    Review active subscriptions on iOS

Open the Settings app on your iPhone or iPad. Tap your name at the top of the menu, then select Subscriptions. This view displays all active and expired services linked to your Apple ID.

Note: If a service is not listed here, it is billed directly through the provider's website rather than the App Store.
  2. 1 min

    Check Google Play subscriptions

Open the Google Play Store app on your Android device. Tap your profile icon in the top right corner, then select Payments & subscriptions followed by Subscriptions. Review the list to identify any legacy recurring payments.

  3. 2 min

    Audit third-party billing logs

Log in to your primary credit card or banking portal online. Search your transaction history for recurring keywords like 'Hulu', 'Netflix', 'Disney', or 'Apple'. Compare these charges against your active subscription lists to find services billed independently of platform app stores.

Note: Look for transactions occurring between the 1st and 5th of the month to isolate monthly subscription patterns.
  4. 30 sec

Cancel unwanted subscriptions via OS settings

Return to the Subscriptions menu on your device. Select the service you wish to end and tap Cancel Subscription. Confirm the action to stop automatic renewals at the end of the current billing cycle.

Note: You will generally retain access to the service content until the current prepaid period expires.
  5. 1 min

    Cancel direct-billed subscriptions

For services not found in app stores, navigate to the provider's official website in a browser. Log in, go to the Account or Billing section, and locate the Cancel Membership or Manage Subscription option. Follow the on-screen prompts until you receive a confirmation email.

Note: If the cancel button is hidden, look for a 'Contact Support' link; many providers hide cancelation links behind chatbot sequences.
  6. 30 sec

Set calendar reminders for free trials

When starting a free trial, immediately create a calendar event for two days before the renewal date. Set an alert to 'Remind me' so you have time to cancel before the first payment is processed. Include the specific URL to the cancellation page in the event notes.

Note: Use the 'Notes' field in your calendar entry to store your login credentials if you use a unique password for that service.
