Step by step
Categorize your hardware by power output
Group all chargers and cables by their connector type and wattage. Separate high-output USB-C power adapters from low-voltage legacy cables to prevent confusion during future use.
Note: Check the fine print on the brick for the wattage output.Apply adhesive labels to power adapters
Print a label identifying the target device, such as 'MacBook Pro' or 'Monitor'. Apply the label to the flat side of the power brick, ensuring it does not cover ventilation holes.
Note: Wrap a small piece of clear tape over the label to prevent it from peeling.Tag cables at both ends
Wrap a thin piece of label tape around the base of the cable connector at both ends. Use abbreviated text like 'MBP' or 'iPhone' to ensure the cable remains identifiable even when unplugged.
Note: Folding the label back onto itself creates a flag that is easier to read.Use heat shrink for permanent identification
For high-use cables, slide a piece of clear heat shrink tubing over the label you have applied to the cable. Use a heat gun or hair dryer on a low setting to shrink the tubing, permanently sealing the label against abrasion.
Note: Ensure the tubing is not too tight; it should sit flush without crimping the cable.Organize using dedicated cable slots
Place your labeled chargers into a segmented storage box or a drawer organizer. Keep the labeled cable ends facing upward or outward to allow for instant identification before retrieval.
Note: Avoid bundling cables tightly to prevent interior wire damage.
