Step by step

  1. Create a Discord account

Visit discord.com and click Sign Up. Enter your email address, username, and password. Verify your email through the confirmation message Discord sends to your inbox.

Note: Use a username you're comfortable with publicly — other Midjourney users will see it when you generate images.
  2. Join the Midjourney Discord server

Go to midjourney.com and click Join the Beta. This redirects you to Discord with an automatic server invitation. Click Accept Invite to join the Midjourney Discord server.

  3. Read the rules and get oriented

Check the #rules channel first to understand community guidelines. Browse #announcements for important updates. The server contains multiple channels for different activities and experience levels.

Note: Bookmark #status for real-time service updates and maintenance notifications.
  4. Start your free trial

Type /imagine in any newbie channel and press Enter. Midjourney will prompt you to accept Terms of Service. Click Accept ToS to activate your free trial, which includes 25 image generations.

Note: Use newbie channels for your first images — they're less crowded than general channels.
  5. Subscribe to a paid plan

Type /subscribe in any channel to get your personal subscription link. Click the link to open Midjourney's billing page. Choose Basic ($10/month) for 200 images or Standard ($30/month) for unlimited personal use.

Note: Basic plan images are public by default. Upgrade to Standard or Pro for private image generation options.
  6. Test your setup

Return to Discord and type /imagine followed by a simple prompt like "sunset over mountains". Press Enter to submit. Your image will generate within 60 seconds in the same channel.

Note: Save successful prompts — you can reference them later with /show [job_id] to recreate similar results.
